1961 New Candidates

1961As the expansion era dawns on MLB, the HoME marches forward, looking backward. In 1961, eight more slots open for candidates to claim their plaque.

This and some subsequent elections should feel a little lighter on the newbies thanks to the tendency of World Wars to get in the way of baseballing. Newcomers include a guy who married this woman, a guy with a highway named after him, and Mr. Coffee.

We carry over two slots from 1906, two from 1921, five from 1931, three from 1941, and 1 from 1956 for a total of 21 possible honorees.
