Many of you visiting here may know at least one of us, the electors of the Hall of Miller and Eric. You’ll know that we love the Baseball Hall of Fame, which is why we feel compelled to create a better one.
But just in case you don’t know us, here’s who we are and our individual philosophies on electing HoMErs. And in case you don’t already know, we tend to agree on a lot of things…and really disagree on others. One of us teaches debate; the other one writes persuasive copy for a living. Let the fun begin!

He’s the marketing guy whose head is either in persuasive copy or a sales spreadsheet by day. By night his head is in baseball spreadsheets. Eric participated in the Hall of Merit project at Baseball Think Factory back when Win Shares were the new thing, when Baseball Prospectus was free online, and when people still had land lines.

Very cool site & concept. Was pleasantly surprised to see Roscoe Barnes and Sherry Magee make it into your Hall; gives you guys some credibility compared to Cooperstown !!
Thanks, Tom, we’re glad you enjoyed it! If you aren’t a regular, please stick around and enjoy our archive of posts. There’s lots there!
Eric, I’m liking your catching adjustments. For calculating the annual bonus, where are you getting the numbers for the 3rd most catcher PAs? Is there a website that has this information?
I used BBREF’s Play Index to determine this.
Do you then adjust this for an estimate of PAs while Catching? For example, for 1999, I get 593 as 3rd most PAs of anyone who caught. I can’t see who that is since I don’t subscribe to PI, but I assume that distinction is necessary to determine an accurate bonus for each year.
Is your “Toughness Multiplier” just the ratio of a given league’s Standard Deviation compared with the average Standard Deviation?
Well, just is a bit diminutive….
